Entry Requirements
Most international visitors travelling to Kenya are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before departure.

We recommend applying at least 7–14 days before your travel date and ensuring your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
Weather & What to Pack
Kenya's coast enjoys a warm tropical climate throughout the year, with temperatures typically ranging between 24°C and 32°C.
We recommend packing:
- Lightweight clothing made from breathable fabrics
- Swimwear and beachwear
- Comfortable sandals or walking shoes
- A light sweater for cooler evenings or boat excursions
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
- Insect repellent for evenings
Many of our properties embrace traditional Swahili architecture, designed to maximise natural ventilation. Ceiling fans and the refreshing coastal breeze provide comfort throughout your stay.
Drinking Water
We recommend drinking filtered or bottled water throughout your stay. Most hotels, villas, and reputable restaurants provide safe filtered drinking water.
To help reduce plastic waste, we encourage guests to travel with a reusable water bottle whenever possible.
Staying well hydrated is especially important in the tropical coastal climate.
Currency & Payments
The official currency of Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling (KES).
Major hotels, restaurants, and shops accept Visa and Mastercard, while M-Pesa, Kenya's widely used mobile money payment system, is accepted at many establishments.
ATMs are readily available in major towns and accept most international debit and credit cards. We recommend informing your bank of your travel plans before departure.
Foreign currency can also be exchanged at licensed forex bureaus and international airports.
Electricity
Kenya uses Type G (British-style) electrical sockets operating on 240V, 50Hz.
If your devices use a different plug type, please remember to bring a suitable travel adapter.
Culture & Local Etiquette
Kenya is a culturally diverse country with many different traditions and communities. Along the coast, particularly in historic towns, Islamic culture forms an important part of everyday life.
Visitors are encouraged to dress respectfully when exploring local towns and villages. Clothing that covers the shoulders and knees is appreciated when visiting cultural or religious sites.
You'll also hear the call to prayer throughout the day—a beautiful reminder of the region's rich heritage and traditions.
One of the joys of staying on the Kenyan coast is experiencing authentic Swahili architecture and lifestyle. Traditional homes feature open courtyards, terraces, high ceilings, and natural ventilation designed to keep interiors cool. As these properties are often located within vibrant local communities, you may occasionally hear neighbourhood sounds, adding to the charm and authenticity of your stay.
Health & Safety
Kenya is a welcoming destination, and taking a few simple precautions will help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
- Keep passports and valuables securely stored in the safes provided at your accommodation.
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
- Do not purchase or travel with illegal substances. Kenya has strict laws regarding narcotics and public intoxication.
- Drink plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun during outdoor activities.

Comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended before your journey.
Tipping
Tipping is appreciated throughout Kenya as a gesture of thanks for excellent service, although it is not obligatory.
As a general guide:
- Restaurants: 5–10% if a service charge has not already been included.
- House staff and villa teams: At your discretion, depending on the length of your stay and the level of service received.
- Guides and drivers: Tips are always appreciated for exceptional service.
Stay Connected
Wi-Fi is available in most of our properties. Local SIM cards from providers such as Safaricom and Airtel can also be purchased at the airport or in major towns should you wish to stay connected throughout your visit.
